Aldovino, en étudiant le ciel avec son télescope, aperçoit sur la planète Mars la très belle Yala et en tombe amoureux. Communiquant par radio-télégraphe il demande au père de la martienne son consentement pour le mariage, mais celui-ci répond qu'il consentira aux noces seulement s'il est en mesure de voler jusqu'à la Lune où dans un an exactement il sera là à l'attendre. L'entreprise semble impossible, mais l'amour ne connaît pas d'obstacles, Aldovino construit une nacelle, lancée dans l'espace par un mortier juste à temps pour arriver au rendez-vous.

Le film marque probablement le début du cinéma italien dans la science-fiction. L'histoire est menée avec l'ingénuité et l'optimisme des précurseurs du genre.

Who can say if Alexei N.Tolstoy, author of the novel Aelita (1922) on which Yakov A. Protazanov based his film of the same name (1924), ever saw this little film by Yambo (Enrico Novelli, 1876-1945), which tells the story of an intergalactic love between a terrestrial and a Martian, sparked by radio-telegraphic signals? And if the realization, with tricks, miniatures, and models, appears very much of its period, what is surprising, in some Martian interiors, is the fanta-futurist clothing assigned to these people. The names of Yambo’s collaborators are not known, but they could readily have provided a "constructivist” costume designer for Aelita... — CM
